Emergencies and life-saving equipment
All emergency and life-saving equipment is to be well maintained and ready for immediate use before leaving port. Life rafts shall be deployable safely and quickly even in adverse conditions.
If your vessel is sinking and you must abandon ship, it is vital that life rafts are installed properly. The consequences may otherwise be fatal, such as a life raft sinking along with the vessel. A life raft shall be installed with a hydrostatic release device ensuring that it will automatically release, surface and inflate in the case of your vessel sinking.
This guide shows how to install the hydrostatic release device
