Vessels of more than 6 metres in overall length, constructed after 1967, are required to have an installation attestation for the electrical installation.

The installation attestation has to be renewed if the electrical installation is modified. The inspection shall be carried out by an electrical installer (minimum group L), and an installation attestation prescribed by the NMA will be issued.

Vessels from 8 to 10.67 metres which do not hold a valid installation attestation at the time of the initial inspection of the vessel by an approved company, have to be subjected to an inspection by an electrical enterprise accepted by the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB). A report form will then be issued, which has to be renewed if the electrical installation is modified.

After 1 July 2014, fishing vessels of 9 metres in overall length and upwards (previously 10.67 metres), irrespective of year of construction, shall have periodical inspections of the electrical installation after the vessel has been phased into the inspection scheme (inspections by approved company). That is to say, that if the vessel's installation attestation is valid when the vessel is presented for initial inspection, the first periodical inspection of the electrical installation shall be carried out within a time period of 5 years.
Inspections of the electrical installation(s) shall be carried out by an electrical enterprise accepted by the DSB, and a report form laid down by the DSB is issued.
