Approved companies are private companies which are approved by the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) to conduct supervision of fishing vessels of less than 15 metres.

Approved companies consist of shipyards, consulting firms or others that have been given approval.

When an inspection is due, you have to contact an approved company yourself and make arrangements for an inspection. In this connection you also have to carry out a control of the vessel yourself (company’s control). This control shall be carried out in accordance with the report form prescribed by the NMA, and is ordered through the approved company that is conducting the inspection.

What do you do if there are no approved companies nearby?
It might still be the case that there are not enough approved companies for inspection along the entire coast. In such areas, the NMA may upon individual assessment undertake this task following an application from the vessel's master or company. A report form will in such cases be provided by the NMA upon request.
